About Japa Counter

Japa Counter was created with a simple purpose: to support your spiritual journey through technology, and to make the timeless practice of mantra chanting easy, accessible, and free for everyone. We believe that a daily practice of japa, the loving repetition of a sacred name or mantra, is one of the most nourishing habits a person can build. Our goal is to remove every small obstacle between you and that practice, so that all you need to do is choose a mantra and begin.
Our Mission
For thousands of years, devotees have counted their mantra repetitions on a mala of 108 beads. It is a beautiful tradition, but a physical mala is not always at hand. It can be forgotten, lost, or awkward to use on the move, and it is easy to lose count when the mind wanders. We built Japa Counter as a free, elegant digital mala that lives on any device you already carry. It counts each repetition as you tap, marks every completed mala of 108, and quietly keeps your lifetime total, so your attention can rest entirely on the mantra and its meaning.
What We Offer
Japa Counter is more than a single tool. We offer a dedicated counter for every mantra, a Mantra Library of more than 155 sacred chants drawn from the Hindu, Buddhist, Jain, Sikh, and regional dharmic traditions, and a Meditation Timer for time-based sittings. Each mantra comes with its original script, transliteration, and meaning, so you always understand what you are chanting. Our blog shares practical, respectful guidance on how to chant, why the number 108 is sacred, and how to build a lasting daily practice.
Our Values
A few simple principles guide everything we do. First, the practice comes first: our tools are designed to be quiet, clean, and free of clutter and distraction. Second, it should be free and open to all, with no account, no signup, and no barrier to beginning. Third, we honour the traditions we draw from, presenting each mantra with reverence, care, and accuracy. And fourth, we respect your privacy. Japa Counter does not require personal information to work, and your practice belongs to you.
For Every Seeker
Whether you are a lifelong devotee deepening a decades-old sadhana, a curious beginner learning your first mantra, or someone simply seeking a few minutes of calm in a busy day, Japa Counter is for you. Mantra practice welcomes everyone, from every background and every path, and so do we. The chants gathered here reflect that spirit of inclusiveness, spanning many deities, languages, and living traditions.
