Meaning
Namah Shivaya is Sanskrit for I bow to Shiva, and Shiva itself means the auspicious, the benevolent. Prefixed with Om, the five syllables na, ma, shi, va and ya form the Panchakshara, drawn from the Sri Rudram hymn of the Yajur Veda. Shaiva teachers read the five as the five elements, with the practitioner returning each one to its source.
मैं शिव को नमन करता हूँ। यह पंचाक्षर महामंत्र है।
