1. SUMMARY
Japa Counter does not collect your personal information. It has no user accounts, no advertising, no analytics, and no tracking. The app works offline and everything you record stays on your device.
2. INFORMATION WE COLLECT
None. We do not collect, receive, store, transmit, sell or share any personal information about you.
We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number or date of birth. We operate no servers that receive data from this app. There is no account to create and nothing to sign in to.
3. INFORMATION STORED ON YOUR DEVICE
The app saves the following in its own private storage on your device:
- your japa counts, completed malas and round progress
- your session history
- the mantra you have selected, and any mantras you add yourself
- the contents of your sacred sheets
- your settings, including auto japa interval, speech, music, sound, vibration and theme
- your reminder time, if you set one
This is written and read only by the app, on your device. We have no access to it and it is not transmitted anywhere. Uninstalling the app deletes it.
4. THE MANTRA LIBRARY IS OFFLINE
The full mantra library, including all Devanagari text, transliterations and meanings, is contained inside the app as installed. The app does not download mantras, meanings, audio or any other content after installation, and does not contact our website or any other server to function. Over-the-air updates are disabled; all updates arrive through Google Play.
5. SAVING AND SHARING YOUR SACRED SHEET
When you tap Download on a sacred sheet, the app creates an image on your device and saves it to your gallery. Android asks your permission the first time. The image is created entirely on your device and is not uploaded anywhere. We never see it.
When you tap Share, the app passes the sheet to Android's own share sheet and you choose the destination. Whatever you send then travels to the app or service you picked and is governed by that service's own privacy policy. The app does not send anything without you initiating it and keeps no record of what you shared or who you shared it with.
The same applies to the copy button on a mantra: the text goes to your device's clipboard, which is managed by Android, not by us.
6. SPEAK ON EACH JAPA (TEXT TO SPEECH)
If you enable Speak on each japa, the app hands the text of the selected mantra to the text-to-speech engine already installed on your Android device, which then speaks it aloud.
That engine is separate software, usually supplied by Google or by your device manufacturer, and it operates under its own privacy policy. Depending on which engine you use and how it is configured, it may process the text on your device or through its own service. We have no control over and no visibility into that engine.
The text sent is the mantra text. If you enable speech for a mantra you added yourself, the text you typed is what gets sent. If you would rather no text left the app at all, leave this setting off; it is off by default and every other feature works without it.
7. BACKGROUND MUSIC
The music and chant tracks are audio files included inside the app. Playing them involves no network connection and no third-party service.
8. PERMISSIONS AND WHY THEY ARE USED
- Vibration: haptic feedback as you count each bead.
- Photos and media (save only): to write a sacred sheet image to your gallery when you choose to download one. Requested at that moment, not at launch.
- Notifications (optional): only to show a daily reminder you set yourself. Reminders are generated on your device.
The app does not request access to your camera, microphone, contacts, calendar, location, phone, SMS or call logs.
9. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
The app is intended for a general audience aged 18 and over. It collects no personal information from anyone, including children under 13, and contains no content directed at children. We cannot knowingly collect information from children because we do not collect information from anyone.
10. YOUR DATA RIGHTS
Because we hold no data about you, there is no account to close, no data to export and no server-side record to erase. To remove everything the app has stored, clear the app's storage in your Android settings or uninstall the app. Sacred sheets you have already saved to your gallery are your own files and stay there until you delete them.
If you are in a jurisdiction with statutory data rights, such as the EU or UK GDPR, India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, or the CCPA, those rights apply to personal data a company processes about you. We process none, so there is nothing for us to disclose, correct, delete or port. You are welcome to contact us to confirm this in writing.
11. DEVICE BACKUP
Android's built-in backup is enabled for this app. If you have device backup switched on in your Android settings, Android may include the app's data in the backup held in your own Google account. That backup belongs to you and is handled by Google under Google's privacy policy. We cannot see or access it, and you can disable device backup at any time in your Android settings.
12. SECURITY
App data is held in the app's private storage area, which Android isolates from other apps. Its security rests on your device's own protections, so we recommend keeping a screen lock enabled and your Android version current.
13. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
If our practices change we will post an updated policy at this address with a new effective date and describe the change in the app's release notes on Google Play. If a future version of the app ever collects data, we will say so here and in the Data Safety section before that version is released.
