Meaning
Surya is the Sanskrit word for the sun and for the deity who is that sun, drawn from a root meaning to shine. Placed in the dative, suryaya namah reads simply as salutation to Surya, framed by om. Vedic hymns address him as the eye of the world and the visible face of the divine, so the line greets a god one can actually see each morning.
